This
week on the Island of Sodor, Rusty returns from the works and some of the
engines are still mad at him for the trouble he caused the railway. Duncan
bullies Rusty about being a diesel. Rusty feels bad. BoCo sees Rusty and talks
with him about how diesels are taking over the mainland. Will Rusty stay humble
or will he take too much pride in being a diesel?
In the TV series episode, Tender Engines, Gordon learns about the takeover of Diesels on the mainland. Besides that episode that is hardly even mentioned. I always wondered if Rusty knew about this, especially since he is a minority on his railway, but on the mainland diesels are the majority. That partially inspired this episode. I also really wanted to have a bonding relationship between Rusty and BoCo, two of the really nice diesels on Sir Topham Hatt's railway that get picked on because they aren't steam engines.
